What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding also known as dental bonding and tooth bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment. It is a dental putty that is moulded to your teeth to improve the appearance of your smile.

Composite bonding helps to hide or disguise flaws in your teeth that might be bothering you or affecting your confidence.

Hundreds of patients from Cotham, Kingsdown, Westbury Park, Montpelier, Bishopston, Redcliffe, Southville, Henleaze, Redland, Easton, Clifton and throughout Bristol are using composite bonding to improve how their teeth look.

Composite bonding can be used to treat:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Heavily stained teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • A slightly twisted tooth to make it appear straight
  • Uneven teeth to give a neat finish

How does composite bonding work in Bristol?

After your first consultation with your cosmetic dentist, a resin will be chosen that bests matches the colour of your teeth.

Your tooth will then be prepared by slightly etching the surface. A conditioning liquid will then be applied that helps to bond the resin to the tooth.

The dental putty is then applied to your tooth and moulded into shape. Your cosmetic dentist will then apply a UV light over your teeth which hardens the dental bonding to your tooth. Finally, your teeth will be given a polish and you can see your new tooth!

With proper care and attention, composite bonding should last for many years. You should avoid food and drink which stain for the first 48 hours and you should avoid biting nails or other items to prevent damaging the composite bonding.

Dental bridges can help, however they don’t stop the gum line from shrinking.

Dental implants provide a more comfortable and longer lasting solution, as they can help stop any face sagging, and restore the pleasure of eating, as they function like a normal tooth.
